Already have a paid Betterlytics subscription and need to adjust your plan? This guide covers everything you need to know about upgrading, downgrading, and switching between plan tiers.
Understanding Plan Changes
Types of Plan Changes
Upgrading:
- Increase your event limits
- Switch from Growth to Professional
Downgrading:
- Reduce your event limits to lower costs
- Switch from Professional to Growth
Lateral Changes:
- Same tier but different event volume
- Adjust pricing without changing features
Before You Change Plans
Assess Your Current Usage
- Review your event consumption in User Settings → Usage tab
- Check which features you actually use (Professional vs Growth)
- Consider your future growth - will you need more events next month?
- Evaluate dashboard usage - do you need multiple dashboards and sites to monitor?
How to Change Your Plan
Step 1: Access Your Billing
- Log into your Betterlytics account
- Click your user avatar in the top-right corner
- Select “Upgrade Plan” or navigate to betterlytics.io/billing 
- You’ll see the pricing calculator with your current plan highlighted
Step 2: Select Your New Plan
- Use the slider to choose your desired event volume
- Select Growth or Professional tier
- Review the new pricing compared to your current plan
- Note the monthly cost difference
Step 3: Confirm the Change
- Click “Change to This Plan” on your desired option
- You’ll be redirected to Stripe Customer Portal
- Review the change details including proration
- Select your new plan
- Confirm the subscription modification
Step 4: Immediate Effect
- Plan changes take effect immediately
- Billing adjustments are automatic and prorated
- New features/limits are available right away
- You’ll receive an email confirmation from Stripe
Upgrading Your Plan
When to Upgrade
Consider upgrading when you:
- Consistently approach your event limits
- Need multiple website dashboards (Growth → Professional)
- Want longer data retention (3+ years vs 1+ year)
Upgrade Benefits
More Event Capacity:
- Higher monthly event limits
- Room for traffic growth
- No overage worries
Professional Features:
- Up to 50 website dashboards
- Extended data retention (3+ years)
- Priority email support
Upgrade Billing
- Immediate proration - pay the difference for remaining billing period
- No interruption to service
- Access to new features/limits right away
Downgrading Your Plan
When to Downgrade
Consider downgrading when you:
- Consistently use fewer events than your current limit
- Want to reduce monthly costs
- Don’t need Professional features anymore

Important Downgrade Impacts: Any data older than 1 year is at risk of being deleted if you downgrade from Professional to Growth plan.
Downgrade Process
- Select your new lower-tier plan using the pricing calculator
- Stripe automatically calculates credit from unused time
- Downgrade takes effect immediately
- Credit applied to your account for future billing
